Some reviews are admittedly basic catalog copy that are good but don’t give the feel that the reviewer really delved into our hydration gear.  Peter Larson, the blogger of Runblogger, provides probably the most comprehensive reviews of the Gel-bot I’ve ever seen.  Not only does he present the design, he checks the compatibility with other bottles, cleaning, and functionality with other products.

This Note is from Zach Landman, a 3rd year med student at UCSF and Ultra Runner.  Recently he won the Quicksilver 50 Mile  in 6: 50:00  and reached out to us to comment on our Gel-Bot hydration/nutrition vessel.   Here is what he had to say.

“I Started using the gelbots on Nathan’s advice before pacing him at Miwok (I love the new pics of the race on the site), and used the same system at Quicksilver 50 miler this past weekend.  I can say without a doubt that using the gelbots allowed me to hold off ultra-stars Rob Evans, Troy Howard, and Josh Brimhall for the win.  Hydrating and gelling in the early morning hours paid huge dividends in the heat of the final climb at mile 40.  I’m pretty positive that the 5 minute advantage I ended up with over Rob Evans was earned at the aid stations as I never needed to stop.  … Anyway – you got a great thing going on. I recommended it to another WS100 competitor just yesterday (a bad idea on my part – ha ha), but I’ll probably use the same system at western states in a few weeks.”  Zach Landman

We were very impressed with the performance of the Laguna hydration pack. It offers a lot of innovative features that work well, making rides with it very enjoyable. The  pack is made out of durable nylon material with nice stitching. The pack can hold a lot cargo thanks to the numerous pockets and expandable main compartment. It’s nice to have the versatility of being able to carry as much or as little gear as you need with the same pack and not feel bulky…..FULL REVIEW

This is about how much I saw of Nathan at an aid station on his way to a smoking fast finish of 8 hours 32 minutes at the Miwok 100.  It was a pretty exciting race this year with perhaps one of the most competitive Men’s and Women’s fields ever. Each station we would exchange Gel-bots, some Vespa, and then he’d give instructions for the next aid station 6 – 7 miles away. It was a super fun day.
