Hydrapak, a leading global supplier of active-lifestyle hydration equipment, today announced their role as OEM provider for Salomon Sports. The partnership is the latest in a series of collaborations in which the Oakland based company has helped an established outdoor brand add advanced hydration products into their product mix.
As a full-service OEM, Hydrapak has fulfilled many demanding product requirements as requested by Salomon’s product design team. Re-engineered components in this hydration system include the new Hydraflex™ tube for enhanced flexibility; a stronger, smaller and easier to grab Slider closure mechanism; color-coordinated reservoir material and drink tube; and two different tube lengths for the various sized finished products. Additionally, Hydrapak is able to provide a mix of connectors and drink tube configurations to further augment the functionality of the various Salomon packs.
Hydrapak’s Softflask products were also re-shaped to fit and complement the color-coordinated Salomon running program.
“We were delighted to have been given the opportunity to create a specialized hydration system for Salomon,” said Hydrapak Brand Manager Jim Vernon, “They are a clear leader in the outdoor, run and ski markets, and the integration of the Reversible Elite Reservoir into their exceptional products serves as a testament to our combined ongoing commitment to provide athletes the most reliable and dynamic hydration solutions available.”
“This cooperation with Hydrapak was really important for us as we strive to provide the best hydration solution for the trail running community,” said Fabienne Richards, Salomon’s PLM for Bags and Equipment. “In cooperation with our top athletes, we are proud to introduce easier, faster and more intuitive solutions, from bladders to soft flasks, which are true to our environmental and health values.”
This statement was backed up by Kilian Jornet, this year’s Western States 100 winner. During his 2010 debut he had problems with dehydration and cramping. However, this year while using the newly redesigned Soft Flasks and Salomon Handhelds, Kilian noted, “The hydration went very well, my legs have not suffered, nor have I had any unexpected problems during the course of the race. With the lessons I learned last year, I drank a lot, I took salts, liquid food and sandwiches. By the finishing line, I had even gained a kilo!”
Salomon Sports is the latest addition to an impressive list of premium manufacturers that integrate Hydrapak hydration components into their designs — including DaKine, Vaude, Nathan, Backcountry Access, EVOC, Oakley, Columbia, Fox, Ogio, Kriega, Scott, BMW, KTM, and Berghaus. These partnerships demonstrate the evolving dynamic of the hydration category, which has found new energy and excitement with increased brand participation and product offerings.
